Sue brings this report back from the DFB team's fund raising participation in a the Devizes Carnival. Take me back to 'What's Happening...
Left to right: Roman,Maggie,Michelle,Anji,Luisa,Ian,Hazel, Jean,Me,Michael, and Janet. Jim took the photo. What shall I say...Carnival or as some would have it "carne vale" or "farewell to flesh" is a celebration of music and parade and a topsy turvey upheaval of daily life. But for the two boys who rode the float the "carnival" ocurred quietly when no-one was looking as, at the end of the day, their inflated suits were allowed to deflate and they went from twenty-five stone apiece to just eight, emerged fully alive to step with no small gasp of relief from out their Sumo suits . "Farewell to the flesh" indeed .Huge thanks as ever to Gaigers for so generously lending us the truck Take me back to 'What's Happening...
Patrollers Raise Funds for DFB Take me back to 'What's Happening...
Our intrepid Coordinator Sue, with colleague school patrollers, had an eye catching fund raising walk for the DFB today.
Pictured here in Trowbridge Park where they stopped for a breather, are some of the walkers chatting with the locals about crossings and the FoodBank. The lady in the yellow hat and dark shades top left is Cathy and the one second along in yellow on the bottom row is supervisor Jane, with our Sue bottom far right. . Also on the walk (not pictured) were Cathy's daughter and two other patrollers Sheila, Ludmila and her daughter. Our thanks go to all of them plus to Tazril, Wiltshire Council's School Crossing Patrol manager for agreeing to this event. Take me back to 'What's Happening...

Take me back to 'What's Happening... Today at St Andrews a cheque for £307.50p was presented to Rev . Chris Cory by Mike Eacopo of St. Nicholas Church and Hilary Thompson of Bromham Methodist Chapel.
It was money they had jointly raised from their Lent Lunches. They had chosen DFB because they felt that it was a worthwhile local charity 'a wonderful idea to have such a project that can give immediate aid so directly'.
Chris thanked Mike for the donation. Sue (coordinator for Devizes Food Bank project) said that the money would be used for the ongoing work and development of the charity. Also present was Bridget Selwyn who is a Food bank volunteer at the St Andrews Coffee shop. Take me back to 'What's Happening...

Take me back to 'What's Happening... After a busy year as Foodbank Co-coordinator Cathy Griffiths is moving on to full time employment as a Development Technologist with "apetito" in Trowbridge. She has thoroughly enjoyed a great year with the Foodbank, which has seen regular donations coming in from the customers of Sainsbury's and Morrison's and the start of a new distribution point at the St Andrews Thursday Coffee Mornings. Cathy has particularly enjoyed going out and addressing different Community groups with talks and presentations Cathy passes on her warmest thanks to everybody she has had the pleasure of working with on Foodbank business. We are very pleased that she will continue to have an involvement with the Foodbank as a member of the leadership team. Sue receiving Foodbank papers from Cathy, and still smiling.
Carrying on the post from 18th January 2009 is Sue Kemp, who has been working with Cathy to achieve a smooth handover over the last few weeks. Sue moved to Wiltshire from Plymouth . She initially worked for the County Council as part of the Adult Guidance Unit and then joined Wiltshire Training and spent some time running a variety of government initiated "back to work" programmes on behalf of the Employment Service, working closely with long term unemployed people. As well as running the workshops Sue spent some time alongside Business start-up consultants, as jobs advisor and driver of the 7 ton Enterprise Bus! Sue has a degree in English and Psychology from Oxford Brookes and last summer completed a two year course of theological study at Sarum College. Sue is now mainly self employed and does dog grooming from home and is the local Lollipop Lady. Sue enjoys meeting people and is enthusiastic about joining the team at the Foodbank. She already has met several of the Foodbank volunteers and looks forward to getting personally acquainted with the partners and donor churches. Sue lives with her teenage son and worships at St James church in Bratton. Take me back to 'What's Happening...

A NEW CO-ORDINATOR FOR DEVIZES FOOD BANK. Take me back to 'What's Happening... Cathy was born and raised in Westward Ho in North Devon and

University in 1998, Cathy worked in Devon, Wales and Cornwall gaining
expertise in various roles including quality assurance, technical
administration and development issues. Whist

Haydens Bakeries and at Uniq, now Gibsons.
Cathy,
who worships at St James’ Church, is gradually meeting the
volunteers who are drawn from many of the churches in the town. They
provide assistance with collection and weighing and sorting food into
boxes, each of which provides a nutritious diet for three days for a
person or family in crisis. The boxes are distributed through various
partner agencies such as Kennet Carers and the Social Services. Take me back to 'What's Happening...
